2019 Greyhounds Award Banquet

Sam Walker

The doors to Citrus Bar & Grill opened at 4:30pm on Saturday (Oct. 19 2019) where drinks and socialization began.  Rob Smith (MC for the evening) welcomed everyone and acknowledged the Greyhounds Masters Track and Field Club executive and coaches present.

Rob provided humour when he presented a few "fake" awards of his own:
Coach's Pet Award - Marvin Johnson
I'm Too Cool to Warmup Award - Edwin Liu
I'm Sorry I Call You Too Much For Training Tips Award - Himself

Many of you renewed your memberships early and we thank you!   Karen Sieben (previously unattached) joined the day of the banquet and we welcome her as our 101st member of the year! The entries were tabulated but the early bird Greyhounds membership renewal was raffled off and won by Bakhshish Dhillon.
Dinner was served shortly thereafter.  I won't go into detail . . . but it was delicious!

All in attendance were given raffle tickets and door prizes were drawn throughout the night.
The award ceremony first began with a heartfelt and moving speech on Wellbeing and suffering loss by Rachel Fouladi (Associate Professor Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University).  Sadly we lost three members this year and the emotion of respect, dedication and love for each other permeated throughout the evening in the speeches/presentations given.

For those that were unable to attend, we missed you!

Please know that I have been humbled by your efforts and continue to be inspired by your drive and commitment.
We are truly privileged to be a part of the Greyhounds Masters Track and Field Club, a group of dedicated, supportive, passionate on sport and encouraging teammates.  Congrats to ALL of you for your achievements both on and off the track and field.
