World Masters Athletics Championship

After a training run at the Decathlon here at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam, Greyhound member Reidar Zapf-Gilje went on to compete in the Worlds Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden where he won a Silver Medal.   He writes:

Hi from Sweden!
Canada won gold and silver in the M70 decathlon. Ward Hazen from Strathmore won, I came second. Ward turned 70 two weeks before the WMA, so had an age advantage. But still he is very fast sprinter and jumper. He pulled a hamstring and didn’t finish the 1500 m but still had 71 more points than I did.
I set a new BC record in long jump of 4.18m, and did well in the throws. High jump and pole vault were less than expected. My hamstring and quad were tight in high jump (too many jumps and long warm up), but the physio helped loosening up the muscles after the 400. The sprints 100 (headwind) and 400 were slow, the 80m H (headwind), and the 1500 fitness was not what it should have been.
But overall I am happy, with no real misses, some solid results and 3 PB for the M70. I have attached the results.
Cheers, Reidar

Greyhounds are proud to be members of Canadian Masters Athletics and in turn World Masters Athletics.  This year, WMA produced a video with an official song for the WMA.  Below is a link to the moving video.
